QFZA showcases smart cities solutions at QITCOM 2019

Qatar Free Zones Authority (QFZA) has announced its participation as a strategic sponsor in the Qatar Information Technology Conference and Exhibition (QITCOM) 2019, which began this week at Qatar National Convention Center in Doha. This year’s theme is “Safe Smart Cities” and QFZA’s booth will be showcasing the smart infrastructure that investors will have access to while establishing their businesses and technology industries.

QFZA represented by Abdullah Al-Misnad, Deputy CEO, participated in one of the main panel discussions of the Smart City Expo Doha and presented insights on the vast applications for new technologies in developing free zones, as well as developing solutions to address challenges of urban cities. QFZA will also showcase its efforts in rolling out a wide range of smart infrastructure solutions within the free zones. These include intelligent traffic monitoring and street lighting, smart waste removal technologies, addressable advertising panels and more.

On the sidelines of QITCOM, QFZA signed an MoU with the Ministry of Transport & Communications (MoTC) regarding TASMU Digital Valley Initiative. The MOU aims at encouraging and attracting FDI in ICT sector as well as supporting technology companies interested in setting up operations in Qatar. TASMU Digital Valley initiative was launched this morning at QFZ booth in the presence of H.E. Mr. Jassim Saif Al-Sulaiti, the Minister of Transport and Communications and H.E. Mr. Ahmed Al-Sayed, Minister of State and Chairman of the Board of Directors of QFZA.

The zones are already furnished with six-way telecommunications duct banks, wireless internet access and fiber optic cable readiness in all plots, providing a strong base for the rapid expansion of new technologies. More broadly, QFZA is preparing its logistics offering to incorporate high-potential technologies changing the global logistics landscape, including autonomous warehouses, drones and smart customs and insurance solutions.
